The Army launched a new series of recruiting videos on May 4 titled âThe Calling.â
The campaign was designed to close the relatability gap between Gen Z and Americaâs largest military branch by offering an in-depth look at the people behind the uniform, according to an Army spokesman.
Specifically, the animated series highlights a diverse group of Soldiers and profiles five Soldiers and tells their âdeeply emotional and diverse origin stories.â
The featured Soldiers include Cpl. Emma Malonelord, 1st Lt. David Toguchi, 1st Lt. RudSheld Plaisir, 1st Lt. Janeen Phelps and Spc. Jennifer Liriano.
This effort is a distinct departure from previous Army campaigns because of the visual approach and the intimate portrayal of those who serve.

“The Calling” was launched “to help close the relatability gap between Generation Z and America’s largest military branch,” according to a news release about the series.
“Research tells us that young people today see the Army as a ‘distant star’ a place requiring a nearly superhuman level of discipline with little relevance to their daily lives,” Maj. Gen. Alex Fink, Chief of Army Enterprise Marketing, said in the news release. “Similarly, youth don’t necessarily connect with those who serve or see common ground in terms of interests, abilities, and goals.
