Some good news for tomorrow. Tomorrow will be a few degrees cooler than today au gres. But it will still be hot. Hot enough we are looking at the excessive heat warnings and advisories. Two colors on the map. The pink is the excessive heat. The difference is important. That only applies over here, pleasanton, san jose this is where the heat is more serious. This is 108. We talk about extremes. The excessive heat use a significant rest of heat related illnesses of you are not in the air conditioning and hydrating. This is the heat advisory in the day. This is in effect until 9 00 tonight. The National Weather service will probably extend this. This is about 1 degree of importance below a heap morning. It is still you have to read the fine print, theres still a risk of illness. This goes well into next week. I will show you that coming up in a bit. Look what else is on the weather map. A lot of lightning. That ties into a red flag warning for us. Coming up, we will put that red flag warn
Have been downgraded to warnings and while calm conditions helped firefighters make some progress overnight a red flag warning is in effect, bay area wide through tomorrow afternoon. We want to get to darren peck. The thunderstorm complex sitting off the coast right now, take a look at the High Definition doppler, its a complicated picture. You see a big mass of a thunderstorm of the coast of san mateo county, that is not actually there. The Weather Service has set this radar to its most sensitive so we can pick up the leading edge of the storms. That is clutter, not rain. But here is a Lightning Strike and it is moving, all of this stuff is stationary. The stuff that is moving is the wave of scattered thunderstorms that will get here later tonight. Over the next few hours, look down here. We have a few more coming up the coast so unfortunately we are still on schedule, the forecast is not changed a whole lot. Tonight through tomorrow morning is our highest concern, a 40 chance for iso
Right now on kpnx five and streaming on cbsn bay area, wildfires across the bay area, forcing more evacuations and leading families devastated. The rice for crews to gain the upper hand. Good morning, it is monday, august 24th. The three massive places are now covering more than three quarters of 1 million acres. That is an area larger than the city of los angeles, san diego, san jose, and San Francisco combined. Lets go outside from our exclusive Salesforce Tower camera. A red flag warning remains in effect as winds pick up. Lets get over to darren peck with more on that. We have been spared from the worst of the lightning. Not to say there was not plenty of it. A lot of it happened in the Central Valley to our east and some of it over the pacific just to our west and the bay area has found itself in a slot where things are quiet. If we look right now, we are not out of this. The north bay has some showers and when you see that yellows and oranges, that tells us of these are little ba
Bad air quality and what is ahead for us in the day. We have only seen a few lightning strikes over the bay area. Most of it has been to our east and some of it has been over the pacific but in terms of what we have seen, there are just a few and if we look live at the doppler, it is still raining in the north bay. This is actually good news because those are relatively light showers, just enough to dampen things up around the la yukon complex. There is a light rain through 101. Just to the north of healdsburg, there is a burn scar. It is good to see the light rainfall. We are not seeing any lightning being detected but it is still possible. We are not out of that threat yet. That red flag warning stays in effect until 5 00 this afternoon and if we watch the future cast from where the showers are now, they keep going. We will keep seeing showers until 10 00 this morning in the north bay and some of those could still develop an isolated strike of lightning or provide some gusty downdraf
We have gotten through the overnight hours and the period with the potential for the most lightning there we have had a few Lightning Strikes across the bay area but not a lot. Most of it was in the Central Valley and the pacific. There is still rain. Look at the showers. Actually, there is more good news because it has been light rain. But when you start to get into the bands of yellow and orange, and into mendocino, that is an example of this lightning. That potential will stay with us until 10 00 this morning. Not to mention, the red flag warning is in effect until 5 00 this evening because of the wind that can still be an issue and there is the issue with that. We are not out of the woods yet but we have gotten through the worst part of the evening in terms of where we would have seen the potential for the most widespread issues with lightning. So here is the forecast. Once the shower was clear out of the north bay, it is just going to be us and the smoke. There will be a lot of sm
