Dankwardt Park pool closes for season pending investigation

Burlington, IA- The city of Burlington has closed the Dankwardt Park pool early this season. City officials said in a news release Friday that The county health department has completed an inspection at the pool following an incident that occurred at the pool on August 4, 2021. Through the inspection and conversations with the health department staff, the City has chosen to voluntarily close the pool for the remainder of the season to focus on updating and improving communications, policies, and procedures. The incident that occurred at the pool on August 4th was an alleged near-drowning during a city day camp. The pool was investigated by county environmental subcontractor Regional Utility Service Systems on Friday.

Parks and Rec seeks public input on new playground

Burlington, IA- The Burlington Parks and Recreation Department will hold a public forum on Tuesday, August 17th, to receive public input on a new playground at Dankwardt Park. The public forum will be held from 5 to 7 PM at the current playground at Dankwardt Park, where citizens will be allowed to give their thoughts to city staff. The Burlington Beacon reports that Burlington's Capital Improvement Program includes $300,000 in the 2022 fiscal year for the Dankwardt playground project.
