Dankwardt Park pool closes for season pending investigation

Burlington, IA- The city of Burlington has closed the Dankwardt Park pool early this season. City officials said in a news release Friday that The county health department has completed an inspection at the pool following an incident that occurred at the pool on August 4, 2021. Through the inspection and conversations with the health department staff, the City has chosen to voluntarily close the pool for the remainder of the season to focus on updating and improving communications, policies, and procedures. The incident that occurred at the pool on August 4th was an alleged near-drowning during a city day camp. The pool was investigated by county environmental subcontractor Regional Utility Service Systems on Friday.

Parks and Rec seeks public input on new playground

Burlington, IA- The Burlington Parks and Recreation Department will hold a public forum on Tuesday, August 17th, to receive public input on a new playground at Dankwardt Park. The public forum will be held from 5 to 7 PM at the current playground at Dankwardt Park, where citizens will be allowed to give their thoughts to city staff. The Burlington Beacon reports that Burlington's Capital Improvement Program includes $300,000 in the 2022 fiscal year for the Dankwardt playground project.

Burlington Council approves Dankwardt Park bathroom project

A set of bathrooms at Dankwardt Park will be getting an upgrade.  The restrooms near the playground and skate park at Dankwardt Park will be remodeled as a result of a contract the city council signed Monday night.  “This restroom has been in a deteriorating condition, with fixtures, layout, and interior conditions not meeting current park standards,” Development and Parks Director Eric Tysland explained. In a memo he sent to Burlington City Council members, Tysland said the projects include some demolition but mostly interior modeling for two new restrooms and this remodeling does include new plumbing, heating and cooling systems and a new roof.

SEIRPC continues with Louisa County 2040 development plan

Jim Rudisill for The Hawk Eye WAPELLO Following a slow start because of COVID-19, winter weather and apathy from Louisa County residents, planners for the Southeast Iowa Regional Planning Commission are beginning a streak to the finish in developing a new comprehensive plan for Louisa County. SEIRPC Regional Planners Jared Lassiter and Kansha Tiwari met with the Louisa County Planning and Zoning Commission on Tuesday and provided an update on the 2040 Plan development. The plan will replace the county’s 2020 Plan and help guide community development and other issues in the county for the next 20 years. The SEIRPC was hired by the board of supervisors for $18,000 in April 2020 to help develop the plan.
