Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon, the married couple whose real-life story inspired their hit film The Big Sick, are teaming up to adapt the screenplay for The Doubtful Guest, according to a report from Variety.

“The Big Sick” and “Little America” writers Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon are pairing again to write a feature adaptation of “The Doubtful Guest,” a 1957 illustrated short story by Edward Gorey. “It” director Andy Muschietti is set to direct.
Nanjiani will also star in “The Doubtful Guest,” which was acquired as a feature pitch by Amblin Partners. Muschietti’s newly launched production company with partner Barbara Muschietti, Double Dream, will produce the film.

Variety reports that Nanjiani and Gordon are teaming up with sibling duo
Andy and Barbara Muschietti (The It movies) for
The Doubtful Guest. Nanjiani is also set to star in the adaptation of the 1957 absurdist illustrated book by Edward Gorey, which follows a mysterious penguin-like creature who shows up unannounced at a family’s home to stir up trouble and chaos.
