The office for National Statistics says the number of deaths in care homes since the start of the pandemic is now more than 11,000. Thats more than a quarter of the overall number of people who have died in the uk with coronavirus related symptoms. That number stands at 41,020. Meanwhile, the Economic Impact of the crisis shows a sharp rise in the number of people claiming unemployment benefits. That number has soared to more than two million. Well have more on the impact onjobs in a moment, but our first report comes from our Health Correspondent lauren moss. Its another day counting the human cost of the coronavirus.

The times casts doubt over the date of 1 june saying it depends on the status of the uks track and trace system. The telegraph says the British Medical Association thinks schools can open injune, so long as it is safe to do so. The guardian says up to 1,500 primary schools could remain closed, after several councils say they wont force them to reopen.
