The races, the jumps and the throws returned to a remade Hayward Field on Friday as the Oregon Ducks played host to more than a dozen other college track and field teams for the first day of the Hayward Premiere meet.
It was a long time coming. The Hayward renovations began in June 2018 and were completed in June 2020, but because of the coronavirus pandemic, it would be nine more months before the stadium would host full-fledged competition.
Ducks coach Robert Johnson said it was “almost like it was Christmas morning.”
