The Gujarat government has announced a relief package of Rs 105 crore for fishermen affected by cyclone Tauktae which caused severe damage in the state's coastal belt last month, officials said on Wednesday.

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday (May 19, 2021) said that Cyclone Tauktae will weaken into a Depression in the next few hours.
In a weather bulletin released at 1 AM, the IMD stated, The Deep Depression Tauktae (pronounced as Tau Te) over Gujarat region moved north-northeastwards with a speed of about 20 kmph during past six hours and lay centred at 2330 hours IST of May 18, 2021, near latitude 24.0°N and longitude 73.0°E, about 110 km north-northeast of Ahmedabad.

At least 17 people died as cyclone Tauktae ravaged coastal districts of Saurashtra after crashing into the coast near Diu and Una late on Monday night at a speed of nearly 165 kmph. Five deaths were reported in Bhavnagar district alone, while eight other districts including Amreli, Gir-Somnath, Panchamahal accounted for the rest of the casualties. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to conduct an aerial survey of worst-hit districts today.
Mumbai and its neighbouring areas today experienced high-speed winds and heavy rains as the "very severe cyclonic storm" Tauktae headed towards Gujarat, uprooting trees and disrupting local train services.
