However this week the Design Museum has hatched a cunning plan to allow visitors through its doors by turning itself into a supermarket, selling essential goods for the same prices as any local store. For five days, between 21 to 25 April, instead of its usual high end fare, the museum’s gift shop will be stocking such household staples as toilet paper, teabags, pasta, tonic water, porridge oats and tonic water. TIMES are hard for professional musicians. With almost no live work for over a year, many are in dire financial straits. Figures released by the Musicians’ Union revealed that as many as 1 in 3 musicians are considering leaving the industry, with 47 per cent having already taken jobs outside the music industry. Events were brought to a head recently when a country house in Northamptonshire appeared to ask “competent” musicians to work for free. In the since-deleted post, Lamport Hall asked musicians who might be “rusty after lockdown” to perform for free as part of a ticketed event. “We are looking for competent musicians to perform as background music at The Walled Garden Feast,” the post read. “All styles of music considered and a picnic hamper will be provided to all performers.”

Pic: Rob Wilson More than 100 organisations across Eastlondonlines boroughs have received financial support from the Government’s Culture Recovery Fund which assists cultural organisations that were financially stable before Covid-19 but were at imminent risk of failure. The Fund aims to support galleries, theatres, performance groups and arts organisations.  About 2,700 cultural and creative organisations are set to receive a share of more than £400 million in grants across the country, and South London’s borough funding totals £11,421,748, with Croydon receiving £1,178,530,  Lewisham £1,722,135, Tower Hamlets with £8,845,463 and Hackney receiving £7,143,854
