Last year, the Pirates at Great Yarmouth’s Hippodrome Circus were in lockdown, this year they’re live again, albeit on the small screen rather than on stage.
The Hippodrome’s usually sold-out live Easter show has been cancelled for the second year running, but there’s an online alternative for those missing their circus fix: and it’s fantastic.

The Gordon Craig Theatre in Stevenage has been awarded £227,228 from the government s Culture Recovery Fund.

A Stevenage theatre has been awarded more than £225,000 in government funding to aid its reopening plans following the coronavirus pandemic.
Stevenage Leisure Limited (SLL) has received a further lifeline grant from the government’s £1.57billion Cultural Recovery Fund.
SLL has been successful in its second application to the fund for the Gordon Craig Theatre, home of the town s hugely popular Christmas panto.
Clare Fletcher, strategic director at Stevenage Borough Council, said: “This is more fantastic news for leisure and cultural facilities in Stevenage, and comes shortly after the announcement about the council’s successful bid for funding from the government’s National Leisure Recovery Fund.

Cultural Recovery - Music festivals, West End theatres, comedy clubs and Canterbury Cathedral will get a share of £400m emergency government culture funding. A total of 2,700 English culture and heritage venues will share the latest round of the Culture Recovery Fund. Canterbury Cathedral has the biggest grant with £2m, while the Serpentine Galleries in London has been awarded £1.9m and Camden Roundhouse has £1.5m. West End chain Nimax Theatres and Glastonbury will receive £900,000 each. Flashback - Clacton s West Cliff Theatre s Summer Show in 2019 A SEASIDE theatre will be returning with its popular Summer Show after being handed a £55,000 grant to help it survive the lockdown. Clacton s West Cliff Theatre celebrated 125 years of variety in 2019, but was forced to close its door last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The theatre has now been awarded £55,000 from the second round of funding from the Government’s Cultural Recovery Fund, which was set up to ensure venues can withstand the impact of the lockdown. Rob Mitchell-Gears, theatre manager, said it means the Summer Show, the longest running summer variety show in the country, will return this year.
