As Londoners face yet another summer stuck in the UK, why not make the most of it?
Here are ELL’s top places to visit this summer in Lewisham, Tower Hamlets, Hackney and Croydon that you may not have known about before lockdown was introduced last year.
For those sceptical of leaving the house and worried about social distancing, there is something for everyone.
Lewisham
The Horniman Museum and Gardens, is set to re-open at the end of this month, located in Forest Hill. The museum is known for displays of natural history and musical instruments, along with its collection of taxidermy aid animals.
Hundreds of ‘cultural gems’ get recovery fund

More than 100 organisations across Eastlondonlines boroughs have received financial support from the Government’s Culture Recovery Fund which assists cultural organisations that were financially stable before Covid-19 but were at imminent risk of failure.
The Fund aims to support galleries, theatres, performance groups and arts organisations.
About 2,700 cultural and creative organisations are set to receive a share of more than £400 million in grants across the country, and South London’s borough funding totals £11,421,748, with Croydon receiving £1,178,530, Lewisham £1,722,135, Tower Hamlets with £8,845,463 and Hackney receiving £7,143,854

Schools reopen their doors to students after months of online learning

Students are set to return to schools across the Eastlondonlines boroughs from Monday, after almost two months of home learning for most, despite concerns from parents and teachers unions.
While enforcing their own precautions to ensure the safety of students and staff, schools are also strictly adhering to local and national rules. Precautions include staggered arrival and pick-up times, face masks mandatory for parents and older students and on-site testing.
