Perry Township law director hit with no confidence letter from staff

Hall pledged not to resign from the post he s held since 1985. Absolutely not, said Hall, who also serves as the legal adviser for East Canton and Canton and Pike townships.  Hopefully this will pass, and we (in Perry) can all work together again. According to Chessler, the letter was meant to seek a more consistent and quality effort from Hall as law director, as well as remind trustees to keep better tabs on his performance over time. Issues involving the law director s job performance were discussed privately among the Perry Board of Trustees and Hall in March, according to Trustee Doug Haines, who said the township has no plans to jettison Hall from the post.

Perry Fire Chief Mark Martin to retire May 6 after 13 years of duty

Brewster, Navarre and Perry Township have tax issues on May 4 ballot

The Independent BREWSTER – Sgt. Ben Truman has been the Fairless High School resource officer since 2007 when the position was part time. Truman, a 1984 Fairless graduate, said the gig wasn t his dream scenario when he accepted the assignment. However, he s grown into the job and recognizes its importance. It wasn t my speed at first, but it s become more comfortable now, the sergeant said Thursday morning from the high school grounds. Truman s position is funded by an existing Brewster income tax levy that s up for continuation next month. Voters will decide on May 4. As people see the dim side of police (this week with the Derek Chauvin verdict and shooting death of a teenager that involved a Columbus officer), these kids see (in-person) what we re about, added Truman, who began working at the Brewster Police Department in 1991.

Massillon councilwoman Linda Litman is a candidate for city treasurer

The Independent MASSILLON  One of the more notable developments leading up to the May 4 primary election could be the pending departure of the city treasurer. Democrat Maude Slagle, who s served as treasurer since 2013, decided not to seek another term for the part-time position. She will leave the job at the conclusion of 2021. I ve decided it s time for me to retire, said Slagle during a phone interview. Nine years is a pretty good run. Slagle s departure opens the door for incumbent Councilwoman Linda Litman, D-Ward 6, who has filed to run for city treasurer. That decision means Litman will not be seeking another term to her current office.
