BREWSTER – Sgt. Ben Truman has been the Fairless High School resource officer since 2007 when the position was part time.
Truman, a 1984 Fairless graduate, said the gig wasn t his dream scenario when he accepted the assignment. However, he s grown into the job and recognizes its importance. Truman s position is funded by an existing Brewster income tax levy that s up for continuation next month. Voters will decide on May 4. As people see the dim side of police (this week with the Derek Chauvin verdict and shooting death of a teenager that involved a Columbus officer), these kids see (in-person) what we re about, added Truman, who began working at the Brewster Police Department in 1991.
