New Delhi: The Union health ministerâs assertion that the two locally produced COVID-19 vaccine candidates â Covishield and Covaxin â will continue to be procured at Rs 150 per dose by the Centre, as well as the Serum Institute of India (SII)âs failure to clarify the issue specifically, continues to keep alive the issue of differential pricing for state governments.
SII clarifies COVID vaccine pricing, says Covishield most affordable vaccine available in market - "The price of the vaccine is still lower than a lot of other medical treatment and essentials required to treat COVID-19," SII said in a statement.

Covaxin, the indigenous vaccine against COVID-19 will be available for state governments at Rs 600 per dose and private hospitals at Rs 1,200 per dose, Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech announced on Saturday. New Delhi: The Serum Institute of India (SII) announced on Wednesday that its Covishield vaccine candidate would be sold at a price of Rs 600 per dose to private hospitals and Rs 400 per dose to state governments.
The announcement comes two days after the Centre liberalised India’s vaccination drive against COVID-19, allowing state governments to directly approach manufacturers to procure doses and allowing anybody over the age of 18 to get vaccinated from May 1.

In a major announcement, Serum Institute of India (SII) CEO Adar Poonawalla on Tuesday (January 12) said that Covishield will be made available in private markets at Rs 1,000 after getting requisite permission from the Indian government. Poonawalla made the statement at a time when SII has started delivering batches of its COVID-19 vaccine across India.
