India reported 594 new Covid-19 infections on Thursday, causing an increase in active cases from 2,311 to 2,669, as per Union health ministry data. Six more fatalities were recorded. While precautions like mask-wearing and hand hygiene are crucial, experts suggest the new JN.1 variant may be more infectious without increased danger. But they emphasize the importance of safety protocols for all, particularly the elderly and those with underlying health conditions.

According the data update by the Union Health Ministry on Thursday, India logged 2,76,110 new coronavirus infections in a day, India s total tally of Covid-19 cases climbed to 2,57,72,440, while the daily deaths were recorded below 4,000 after four days, taking the toll to 2,87,122.
The active cases have further reduced to 31,29,878, comprising 12.14 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has improved to 86.74 per cent, the data updated at 8 am showed.
