A LACK of parks and green spaces in some parts of the Bradford district has been described as “a cause for concern” in a new report. A document sent to members of Bradford Council’s regeneration and environment scrutiny committee says some families – particularly those living in cramped housing, with no garden – are without access to open spaces. And it suggests more needs to be done to create new public parks, gardens and play areas where facilities are currently lacking. The report – Green Spaces and Covid-19 – says the value of green areas has been highlighted during lockdown, with people being urged to stay local to exercise.
They said an Environment Agency decision to issue a permit for the plant was “very disappointing”. But the campaign group, Aire Valley Against Incineration, says options are still available to fight the project – including a possible legal challenge. Opponents of the incinerator, earmarked for the former gas works site at Marley, say it would pose a risk to people’s health and damage the environment – claims that are refuted by the applicant Endless Energy. Aire Valley Against Incineration chairman Simon Shimbles said that following the Environment Agency’s announcement, the group’s committee had met to “kick off” the next stage of opposition.
