ASWSU approved a referendum to increase the student Chinook fee at Wednesday’s meeting as a result of efforts to combat reduced student enrollment in recent years. Referendum 53-01, penned by senator Isaac Velazquez, said the existing mandatory Chinook student fee is no longer sufficient to sustain existing service levels, due to decreased student enrollment and.
The ASWSU Senate heard presentations from the Health and Safety Director as well as representatives from the Department of Communication and Department of University Affairs in the ASWSU’s executive branch at this week’s meeting. Bryce Becker, the Health and Safety Director said ASWSU passed out stress balls on Tuesday as a part of mental health.
The ASWSU Senate voted on the co-chair position of Crimson Group, the Uncertified Senator position and the new Election Board Chair at this week’s meeting. Communication Director Cooper Howe and Deputy Communication Director Nicole Allison discussed their monthly update, including an increase in Instagram followers for the ASWSU social media account. ASWSU President Brian Patrick said he is sincere in his apologies regarding the recent allegations made by All-Campus Senator Nikolai Sublett. The allegations were made several weeks ago at the end of a Senate meeting and accused ASWSU Executive staff members of making homophobic comments, favoritism and rigged Instagram giveaways. Following Sublett’s statement, Patrick said.
