Cape Town - The two suspects believed to have shot and fatally wounded Metro Police Officer Mzuvukile Mhlengi outside his home and taking his vehicle in Marikana, Philippi East, on Wednesday last week are set to appear in the Athlone Magistrateâs Court today.
Mhlengi, 49, was shot and killed outside his home in what police suspect to have been a botched robbery. Mhlengi is survived by his wife and teenage daughter.
Police spokesperson FC van Wyk said the arrest in the case had been due to the joint efforts by some community members, who communicated with police to bring the suspected killers to book.

Cape Town - Police have launched a manhunt for suspects who murdered an off-duty metro police officer and stole his vehicle at his home in Marikana, Philippi East.
Police spokesperson FC van Wyk said: “Philippi East police have launched a manhunt for suspects after an off-duty member attached to the City of Cape Town’s Metro Police, was shot and fatally wounded earlier today, on Wednesday afternoon in Marikana.
“According to reports police responded to a complaint and proceeded to a residence in Marikana at about 1.40 pm. Upon their arrival, police found the body of a 49-year-old man with gunshot wounds next to his vehicle.
Off-duty Cape metro police officer slain while sitting in his bakkie

Cape Town - The City said that it is devastated after the murder of metro police officer Constable Mzuvukile Mhlengi who was shot while sitting in his bakkie in front of his home in Philippi East.
In a statement on Thursday, mayco member for safety and security JP Smith said the assailants appeared to have stolen Mhlengi’s other vehicle, a red Toyota Corolla.
At the time of the incident Mhlengi, who was stationed at the metro police department’s control room in Goodwood, was off duty and unarmed.
Another cop shot dead in Philippi, vehicle stolen

ANOTHER police officer has been shot dead in Philippi East and his vehicle stolen.
The killing of an off-duty metro police officer Constable Mzuvukile Mhlengi came just days after another off-duty police officer Mzingisi Gule was ambushed and shot dead at the weekend.
Gule from Ilitha Park, Khayelitsha, was shot three times in the head while driving in Thekweni Street, Lower Crossroads, before 1pm on Saturday.
The motive is suspected to be carjacking and robbery.
The 49-year-old Mhlengi was shot while sitting in his vehicle outside his home in Philippi East on Wednesday.
