The Environment Court has recently closed the application
of Forest & Bird Society that sought to reintroduce Hutt
City Council’s withdrawn proposal for Plan Change 46. The
proposed plan change was to apply restrictive “Significant
Natural Area” restrictions on over 1200 private properties
in Lower Hutt under s.6C of the Resource Management Act
1991. The failure of the Forest and Bird application
confirms and reinforces the Council’s 2018 eventual

(Monday 15 March).
The 10 were arrested last Tuesday
while attempting to stop the felling by developer Paul Macey
of the remaining native trees at a Canal Road property in

The 245 day community occupation of the

Te Arawa Whānau Ora has announced its new scholarship in
memory of former CEO and stalwart, Mala Grant, who passed
away last year.
The Ngaroma (Mala) Grant Memorial
Scholarship aims to support a Māori undergraduate student
studying in health or social services, with the aspiration
of supporting whānau to thrive in Te Arawa.
TAWO
Chairman, Te Ururoa Flavell, says Mala’s passing was a
significant loss to her whānau, hapū and iwi, and the
Whānau Ora collective. However, the scholarship will help
other Te Arawa tāngata (people) follow in her
footsteps.
