job at fox news, but he has a new one at the white house. plenty of folks are wondering if his role at fox will create more problems for the trump administration. joining me now is gabe sherman of vanity fair, and he is also the author of the book, the loudest voice in the room. gabe, great to have you with me here. let s start with bill shine and what he s bring to the white house. how did this come about first of all, and what vision might he have for changing the communication shop in the white house? bill shine was brought to the white house by trump s closest outside adviser, sean hannity. he was for years, sean hannity s producer at fox news before he ascended into the management ranks. sean hannity brokered that introduction and helped develop that relationship. he brought bill shine to the white house several months back at a dinner with the president, and clearly they hit it off,
john kelly rereported this morning has signed off on that overhaul and the white house official told me that thirngss still very much fluid, still kind of up in the air this morning. but at the moment the plan looks like it will be flushing out some junior and mid-level aides, the senior people, the people you see on tv every day are most likely going to stay. those people have won the president s affection, obviously. he s betting this is one way to sort of if not stop then stonch some of the leaks. but it isn t clear that the leaks aren t just coming from the communication shop, there are people you ll over the administration that leak and this isn t going to stop that. andrew, including inside the oval office there s no small irony. they re look at junior and mid-level staffers when the president we know is on the phone with his friends regularly talking about stuff that s happening inside the white house. andrew, take it away? ? reporter: yeah, exactly. the president talked to
who pointed out. they issued a statement, the white house? reporter: they have. it took time. the communication shop was consulti consulting with the department of defense. sarah sanders writes we are aware of the south korean media report. the united states will look at what north korea has said independently and continue to coordinate closely with our allies. clear that the administration understands they have to walk a fine line if they want this summit to happen. president trump has been so brash with his language about north korea. he did have a chance to answer today. he returned here to the white
they did on the campaign that won the support of tens of millions of voters. nancy cook, i want to move from the press baefing room into the cabinet room if i could, a subject of the president s ire. i ll read a little bit here from politi politico. trump s advisers have been increasingly criticizing the homeland security chief in private with the president, arguing that she isn t doing enough to improve bored are security and noting that she wasn t a vocal trump supporter during the campaign. what s your sense of where she stands in this administration, what it says about cabinet officials in the trump administration more generally? this is just another issue of back biting in the trump administration. rather than in the communication shop, this is at the cabinet levels. there a number of trump advisers inside and outside the white house that keep stressing for the president that she worked
no kellyanne conway. kellyanne conway is mentioned, is part of the discussion there. and he s also brought up names like bill shine, the former fox executive. but the real fight is between the two officials. it s just this toxic culture in the west wing and the communication shop in particular that s been there since day one of the presidency. we all remember that press conference with sean spicer about the inauguration. it kind of set the tone but no one can replace hope hicks for the president. she occupied the office next to the oval office was his right hand woman, which was an overused phrase by the media when we discuss hope hicks. but she is sort of an extension of him in a lot of ways. i think it will be very unusual for him to be in an unfamiliar setting, as washington is for him, in the white house without
