First of all, cbo was created by the congressional budget and helmet control act of 1974. We were set up to be an objective and impartial agency that is strictly nonpartisan, and we provide analysis of budgetary and economic issues. The director, towards that goal, the director is appointed jointly by the speaker of the house, and the president pro tem of the senate. Cbo has about 235 employees, hired solely on the basis of congressional competence, and without regard to political affiliation. Most have advanced degrees, 80 of our folks have an advanced degree, either a phd or masters degree. We have a lot of expertise. One of the things you can do cant do when youre at cbo, you cant offer opinions on policy issues because we are worried about the appearance of impartiality, and we are worried about obviously being able to work impartially and objectively in our work. Why they ought to choose the army. I think its an interesting question, because i go to basic training. I was just down in fort jackson a couple of weeks ago. And i always ask the parents that i meet, why the army . Especially if theyre from a different branch. Part of the army, to me the army is the force that is the most connected across the country with the United States, with america, with tradition, with the local communities. And it was brought home in a pretty dramatic way a week from yesterday, i had my welcoming ceremony, i talked about my who uncles that went to west point. One of them last name fanning. The number of emails i got from all over the current army today, but other people as well who knew with or served with one of those uncles. I used to love it when i would be in icu and be looking at all the machines and you knew that if it flat lined you had a problem. You just get tired. Youre not in pain. You just get tired. And the next thing i know, a nurse in the icu, a doctor comes in, heres what we have to do for the patient. And they listen to the doctor. Es, right. Any rate, what i was thinking about, carol, is that i believe almost every nurse in the twoyear period who took care of bo showed up and waited as long as five hours in line at wilmington, delaware, to be at his viewing and funeral, which is a hell of a testament to the nurses but also a testament to our children. Look, carol has taken her celebrity and focused it on this fight for a long, long time. And i dont think any of us can thank her enough.
