The topic of unification and what church governance may look like was one of the main conversations on day two of the Committee on the Office of the General Assembly’s fall meeting. The committee spent Tuesday morning focusing on legacy as it moves toward unification.
The Committee on the Office of the General Assembly has approved the latest additions to the draft docket for the 226th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). During the opening session of its fall meeting on Tuesday, COGA members said yes to the plan that not only includes online committee meetings, but other events and activities during the in-person portion of the assembly in Salt Lake City.
The Committee on the Office of the General Assembly (COGA) is recommending to the 226th General Assembly that the entire agency review process be delayed two years. During its monthly meeting on Thursday, COGA’s action also included language asking that its business and referrals workgroup confer with the General Assembly Nominating Committee (GANC) on how to best present the assembly next year.
A busy week lies ahead for the Committee on the Office of the General Assembly as it begins its spring meeting at the Presbyterian Center in Louisville. In addition to COGA, the boards of the Presbyterian Historical Society and Presbyterian Mission Agency are also meeting in person at the Center this week. This will be the first time since early 2020 that the agencies’ committees and boards have met together in person.
