The Minnesota Department of Transportation is planning on investing more than $500 million into District 8, which includes Kandiyohi County and 11 other southwest Minnesota counties, over the next 10 years. This will include major projects on state Highway 23, state Highway 40 and U.S. Highway 71 in Kandiyohi County.
At Tuesday's Kandiyohi County Board meeting, the commissioners approved submitting three letters of support toward three broadband projects hoping to be awarded state Border-to-Border grant funds. An update on projects was also given at the meeting.
Absentee voters will not be able to drop their completed ballots in a drop box at the Kandiyohi County Office Building in downtown Willmar this year. County Auditor Mark Thompson recommended not allowing the use of a drop box for upcoming elections. The use of a box was allowed in 2020 because of the pandemic.
From a board standpoint, 2022 looks a lot like 2021 for the Kandiyohi County Board of Commissioners. The chair and vice chair stayed the same, and the West Central Tribune remains the legal newspaper. Commissioners also went through reassignments for the dozens of different committees on which the commissioners serve.
The Kandiyohi County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution supporting the state agreement subdividing the state's portion of the nationwide opioid settlement against four drug manufactures and distributors. The Willmar City Council also approved a resolution to join the national lawsuit.
