Mavs swim for the win at district meet

MOSES LAKE – The Moses Lake Mavericks had eight first-place finishes at last week’s Columbia Basin Big 9 district meet, guiding the Mavs to a districts win in their home pool. “I’m just so proud of the girls,” Moses Lake coach Jason Hart said. “They all contributed, it was all important.”

Red zone struggles cost Mavs in 35-8 loss to Eastmont

EAST WENATCHEE – Moses Lake was able to move the ball up and down the field on Friday night against Eastmont but went one-for-four in the red zone, resulting in a 35-8 loss to the Wildcats, the Maverick’s first loss of the season. “Just didn’t finish drives,” Moses Lake coach Brett Jay said. “We got to down to the two once, got down to the six-inch line once and we didn’t punch it in. MOSES LAKE After going up 10-0 through the first four innings of Saturday’s Columbia Basin Big 9 district championship game against Eastmont, the Mavericks staved off an attempted Wildcat comeback to win 11-5 and advance to the 4A State Slowpitch Softball Tournament. Moses Lake scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning, scoring three more runs in both the third and fourth innings. “It was huge, the girls obviously came out ready to go,” Moses Lake coach Mike Hofheins said. “I was pleased that they were ready to go from the jump, it’s always nice.”

MOSES LAKE With Tuesday’s sweep of West Valley (Yakima) the Mavericks won the Columbia Basin Big 9 regular season softball title, allowing Moses Lake to host this weekend’s district championship game against Eastmont. The Big 9 title was locked up with a 16-4 and 21-0 win over the Rams on Tuesday. “When we went to West Valley (Tuesday), we knew we had to basically sweep to host, and that’s what the girls wanted to do; and they did it with an exclamation mark,” Moses Lake coach Mike Hofheins said. “When you get to host a district championship at your own park, that’s pretty fun.”
