One of the township records and some of the fieldnotes denoting the location of what became known as delaware town. Or delaware village. I believe it was 400 square miles in the southwest part of the state including springfield. And where delaware town was south of springfield just across the Greene County line. Over the course of five field seasons, we documented several delaware village site dating between 18221830. They probably were more europe and eyes to or americanized than most other groups because of the fact that they had been in contact with euroamericans very early. Where were they from . The delaware. Whatware valley became known as the delaware valley. And came in contact very early with english, dutch, french even peoples. And probably signed more treaties than any other group and

You had operated and founded by the military. And then you had the missions that were established by the priests. Up and down the california from san diego up to San Francisco. At the time. Until that time you had no civil basically a city type of establishment. And so during that time you had a lot of native Americans Still running throughout california. And it was the attempt of the spaniards to try and settle and christianize the original settlers the native americans that were established here. At this time also you had the intrusion from the french, british, and russian interest coming into the pacific coast. So the spaniards are looking at a way of settling and kind of controlling the region that we know of california at the time.
