MMC Khoza aims to revitalise industrial parks Page Content ​​A large chunk of the R195.5-million set aside for economic development will be invested in revitalising industrial parks and Priority Economic Zones (PEZ) to boost economic activity in Joburg in the next fiscal period. MMC for Economic Development, Cllr Lawrence Khoza says this budgetary allocation will help alleviate Joburg s high unemployment rate, create jobs and promote spatial transformation in line with the City s Economic Growth Strategy.  The long term economic outlook examines ways to improve the standard of living within Johannesburg by providing residents with adequate public services and information so that they can be employable in the future.

​Region A hosts successful hybrid IDP meeting​​ Page Content ​The Speaker of Council, Cllr Nonceba Molwele, hosted the first hybrid IDP meeting for Region A in Rabie Ridge Hall on Saturday, 17 April 2021. More than 100 community members joined the meeting virtually while the Rabie Ridge Hall hosted less than 50% of its capacity as required by the adjusted Level 1 Lock-down regulations for strict adherence to all Covid-19 public health and containment requirements, particularly those relating to gatherings and social distancing. Cllr Molwele was accompanied by Members of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Economic Development, Cllr Lawrence Khoza, who is also MMC deployed to oversee Region A, MMC for Development Planning, Cllr Thapelo Amad, and Regional Director Abigail Ndlovu. 

Khoza pledges to make City business-friendly

Page Content Cllr Lawrence Khoza, the MMC for Economic Development has renewed the City’s pledge to make Johannesburg business-friendly, following extensive consultations with the sector. Cllr Khoza has been undertaking various engagements with small and established enterprises in Johannesburg to ensure the City responds to their needs. He says the Government of Local Unity is working to ensure businesses receive adequate municipal support during the lockdown.  The MMC led a high-level task team from the Department of Economic Development to Lenasia recently to access opportunities and challenges faced by businesses in the area. He says some of the challenges highlighted by entrepreneurs in Lenasia include intermittent power supply, high rental payments, lack of security as well as the lack of transformation across the value chain.
