Baby loss memorial gardens proposed for new Carrick and Larne cemeteries Mid and East Antrim Council is to show support for parents who have experienced pregnancy loss through the provision of memorial gardens in the borough’s new cemeteries. Wednesday, 10th February 2021, 3:20 pm A memorial garden has already been opened at Larne’s main cemetery in Craigyhill after a plot of land was requested by the Little Snowdrops Baby Loss Support Group. At a special meeting of the borough council on Tuesday, the council agreed to further provision when new cemeteries open at Old Glenarm Road outside Larne and in Carrickfergus.

Two serious incidents in one day at Egerton Court, Barrow Island leave councillor horrified

TWO serious incidents in a matter of a hours at a block of flats have left a community ‘horrified’. Police dealt with two separate incidents at Egerton Court on Barrow Island in the space of nine hours, including one that saw armed officers dispatched to the scene. Another incident left a man in hospital after ‘serious’ injuries to his leg and spine. Barrow Island councillor Allison Johnston said she hoped the incidents were a ‘one-off’ for the troubled area, which has been improving. Police arrested three people after they were called to the scene by paramedics at 3am to find a man collapsed on a pavement in a front of block 10 in the complex.

Council plays role in Union Connectivity Review

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council has welcomed the opportunity to contribute to a call for evidence for the Prime Minister’s Union Connectivity Review. The purpose of this review is to examine how best to improve road, rail, air and sea links between all four UK regions and to bring forward funding to accelerate infrastructure projects. Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Peter Johnston said: “We believe that the links between the regions of the United Kingdom are of the utmost economic, social and cultural importance. As a Council we have placed the promotion of ‘Sustainable Jobs and Tourism’ at the heart of our Corporate Plan for 2019-2023 and we recognise that good connectivity with the rest of the UK will be key in delivering our aspirations for the Borough.”
