In most places where metro viaducts are erected, traffic flows on both sides of the median. With the median at the centre, the space remains unutilised. With the portal pier design, traffic will flow on both sides and under the viaduct. The central lane under the twin flyover near Doddanekundi is expected to be completed soon and is likely to be open to traffic by next week.

Much to the relief of bus users, the
Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) has no plans to bulldoze the city’s first bus priority lane (
BPL) which was rolled out on the
Outer Ring Road (
ORR) a few months ago. Officials said the dedicated lane of buses between KR Puram and
Central Silk Board would be retained as much as possible when the construction of Metro begins.
