Commissioners hear assessment concerns raised by property owner

The Daily Jeffersonian Guernsey County commissioners met with representatives from other county agencies to discuss assessment concerns raised by the owner of property on Clay Pike Road. The assessments were levied in 2006 in connection with a waterline construction project completed by the county. The property owner does not believe she should have to pay the assessments because some of the property was sold, said Commissioner Jack Marlin. But, the property owner is required to pay the assessment connected with their parcel. According to county officials, the initial 20-year assessment in question was divided into seven assessments when the property was transferred from the previous owner to his son and daughter-in-law.

The Daily Jeffersonian DERWENT An estimated $5.5 million construction and renovation project is underway at Bi-Con Service s campus on Clay Pike Road in Derwent. Crews are relocating utility lines to pave the way for a new two-story, 15,000-square-foot office building behind the current building. The project will also include renovations to the current two-story building with similar square footage. The two buildings will be joined by a 9,000-foot atrium-style connector. The new addition will add nearly 90 new offices and numerous conference areas and collaborative working spaces, said Bi-Con President Denny Patterson. The second phase of construction will include modernizing the existing work areas.

Woman wanted on drug charges arrested during traffic stop The Daily Jeffersonian During a traffic stop Thursday afternoon on Clay Pike Road, Guernsey County sheriff s deputies arrested a Derwent woman wanted on a warrant or failing to appear in court for a felony drug case. Deputies served Taylor Grace Larson, 25, with a capias issued by the Guernsey County Common Pleas Court on Feb. 23 after she failed to appear for a pretrial hearing and a mandatory meeting with her pretrial release officer. Larson faces single counts of possession of heroin and possession of a fentanyl-related compound, fifth-degree felonies returned by a grand jury on Jan. 20.
