Damage here on the Apartment Building on the 400 block of south 8th street near san jose state on the third floor. The San Jose Fire Department says a resident was striking a match while on the phone and then tossed the match on a couch. He then went outside to continue to talk on the phone and thats when he noticed smoke and flames. Instead of running back inside to warn the roommate, he called the roommate on the phone. The roommate was by that time trapped by the flames and made a dramatic escape. It was reported that the person that sustained the burns did run through the fire and he did have some significant seconddegree burns. I saw one guy probably like three minutes after i stepped out, he just sprinted outside. I saw a little flames on his back. I hope hes all right. Reporter three or four other units were damaged by the fire. 11 people total have been displaced. We are hearing that the red cross is helping them find a new place to stay overnight or at least the next couple of
