Community reacts after termination of Oroville Police Chief

OROVILLE, Calif. - The Oroville community is reacting after former Police Chief Joe Deal was terminated from his position on Tuesday.
Action News Now reached out to Deal, he did not want to go on camera but put out a statement saying: As the Public Safety Director I was an “at will” contract employee. The City Council voted to terminate my contract without cause, which was an option contained within my contract. The Council chose to go a different direction with their Public Safety Director. I would like to thank the city and the council for the opportunity to lead the Department for almost 2 years and I’d also like to thank the community for their support in the role.
City of Oroville one step closer to contracting with Cal Fire
The council decided in a 4-to-3 vote to authorize staff to use a letter of intent to begin negotiations with Cal Fire.

Action News Now spoke with a volunteer firefighter who has been a part of the Oroville community for many years, he says if Cal Fire does take over fire protection services, his future is uncertain. It s a concern to me because I love to serve my community, said Pastor Stephen Terry, who is a volunteer firefighter in the city.

City Council to hear Oroville Fire Department s 5-year plan as city considers options for fire protection
During Tuesday s Oroville City Council meeting, the council will hear a 5-year plan presented by the Oroville Fire Department.
