Clemson Falls to No. 3 NC State in ACC Tournament

ROME, Ga. – The 12th-seeded Clemson women’s tennis team (13-13, 3-10 ACC) dropped a hard-fought battle in the second round of the ACC Tournament to No. 3 NC State by a final score of 4-0 The No. 42 doubles pair in the nation in Samantha Buyckx and Ali DeSpain gave the No. 2 pair a battle on Court 1, going up 4-2, but NC State clinched the point and the Court 1 match was abandoned.  In singles play, the Wolfpack took care of business and won three matches in straight sets to clinch the match. Clemson Battles Back to Advance in ACC Tournament, 4-3 Over Virginia Tech

ROME, Ga. – The Clemson women’s tennis team (13-12, 3-10 ACC) pulled off a thrilling comeback victory over Virginia tech (6-17, 2-11) in 4-3 fashion. After dropping the doubles point, the Tigers battled to win four singles matches and ultimately win their first ACC Tournament match since 2017.   The doubles point went to the Hokies, as 13th-seeded Virginia Tech took care of business to clinch the point on Courts 2 and 3. The No. 42 ranked pair of Samantha Buyckx and Ali DeSpain held a 5-2 advantage on Court 1 when its match was abandoned.  The No. 58 Tigers came into singles prepared to battle and mount a comeback. Dani Medvedeva got Clemson on the board with a 6-4, 6-3 win on Court 3. Tigers Win Regular Season Finale over Virginia Tech

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s tennis team (10-11, 3-10 ACC) closed out its regular season on Easter Sunday afternoon at Duckworth Family Tennis Facility with a X-X victory over Virginia Tech (6-16, 2-11 ACC). The Tigers won the doubles point for the first time in eight matches and carried the momentum through the remainder of the match.  Samantha Buyckx and Ali DeSpain continued their stellar performance in doubles, improving to 10-4 on the season with a 6-2 win on Court 1. Knotted at one match apiece, Jenna Thompson and Dani Medvedeva battled to clinch the doubles point on Court 3 in thrilling 7-5 fashion.  The Tigers brought a strong energy into singles play, as Buyckx made quick work on Court 6 to win in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1. No. 57 Clemson Falls 6-1 to No. 10 Duke

DURHAM, N.C. – Jenna Thompson picked up a ranked win as the No. 57 Clemson women’s tennis team (10-11, 2-9 ACC) fell at the hands of No. 10 Duke (15-3, 10-2 ACC) by a final score of 6-1 on Sunday afternoon. The match marked the Tigers last road match of the regular season.  The Blue Devils came out firing and quickly secured the doubles point with two 6-3 wins. Duke’s momentum carried through to singles where it took a commanding 3-0 lead.  Thompson took care of business over the No. 123 singles player on Court 3, winning in straight sets. The victory gave her a 2-1 record over ranked opponents this year, but it wasn’t enough for Clemson. Duke won the remaining matches to secure the victory. Up next, the Tigers return to Duckworth Family Tennis Facility to close out their regular season with three matches. On Friday, they take on Virginia at 3 p.m. and on Sunday they’ll play a doubleheader, beginning at noon against Virginia Tech and concluding against S.C. State at 4 p.m.

DeSpain Clinches Victory for Clemson Over James Madison

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s tennis team (10-9, 2-7 ACC) came out on top of a nailbiter over James Madison (8-10, 0-0 CAA) by a final score of 4-3. Ali DeSpain fought back from a first set defeat to clinch the match for the Tigers on Court 4 with a 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory. DeSpain and Samantha Buyckx won their doubles match to advance to 8-3 as a pair, James Madison quickly put pressure on the Tigers by securing the doubles point. Buyckx continued her scorching season by leveling the score at one apiece with a convincing 6-0, 6-3 win on Court 5. She improved to 12-2 in the spring and 6-0 from Court 5.  Cristina Mayorova gave the Tigers the lead with a 6-1, 6-2 on Court 1, her second win in as many days. Jenna Thompson put Clemson up 3-1 with a 6-2, 7-5 victory.
