Two men killed in this fire. Dozens more people displaced. We did have a chance to speak with one of the residents here who says at least part of the building that burned was a place where many artists and musicians live. A former armory on 24th near san pablo that was converted. Firefighters say when they came to the building around 3 00 this morning, they came on reports of a smoke alarm sounding kind of low. Crews didnt see smoke right away but then saw smoke coming from one of the units. It spread through the attic. By 4 00 a. M. They say it was under control. Then two victims were located in that unit where the fire started, believed to be 28 and 35 years old. Residents say people were yelling, warning others to get out. Myup stairs neighbors were down knocking on the door. They told us
Of the units and the flames spread. The two victims were found inside that unit. Were told the building was a former armory now divided into two structures. One resident said he was in his unit and heard yelling to get out. The whole roof was just on fire. And so everybody on in my unit was able to get out and we got our pets out. And then the firefighters were there really fast. Now the red cross had set up an Emergency Shelter over on broadway. Were told about 30 people were displaced in this fire. And two businesses may have suffered water damage, as well. Firefighters say it does appear to be accidental. The cause of this fire but they are still investigating. Standing around the lookout area when the ground collapsed. We heard like huge, like i would say, a splash. And a lot of sand and rocks falling down. Reporter the two hikers fell 70 feet and were buried underneath the rock and dirt. Some Good Samaritans nearby helped to get them out. And marin county fire sheriff and park ranger showed up to assist in the rescue. Both people were transported by hospital, but one was pronounced dead. Just a few days ago, the National Park Service Posted these pictures along trails and parking lots and also on their website and facebook page. Huge cracks have developed along arch rock prompting the park service to warn hikers that it is very dangerous to walk along the edge of the cliffs given the current conditions. Firefighters looked for about 10 minute inside the building and found the problem inside unit d. They started to try to break down that door. The second they did they smoke started spilling out.
