Reporter the two hikers fell 70 feet and were buried underneath the rock and dirt. Some Good Samaritans nearby helped to get them out. And marin county fire sheriff and park ranger showed up to assist in the rescue. Both people were transported by hospital, but one was pronounced dead. Just a few days ago, the National Park Service Posted these pictures along trails and parking lots and also on their website and facebook page. Huge cracks have developed along arch rock prompting the park service to warn hikers that it is very dangerous to walk along the edge of the cliffs given the current conditions. The other hiker was transported to the santa rosa hospital with life threatening injuries. Christian hartnett, kpix5. A couple and their dog had to be rescued tonight after getting stuck on a cliff. Fire crews used ropes to help them climb back up. They slipped on rocks and fell about 20 feet. They used a cell phone to call for help. Other than a few bumps and bruises they are fine. It started just after 7 00 with a traffic stop at 25th and roosevelt. The driver took off about a mile down the street. One of the passengers got out and tried running. Police say that he had a gun, shot at an officer and kept running. The two traded gunfire again. This time the suspect was hit. We are told his injuries are not life threatening. The officer was not hurt. About 90 minutes earlier. Vallejo police shot a man outside a target store. It happened before 6 00 on admiral callahan lane. The man was carrying a knife. The officers were not hurt. A man is under arrest after a body was found in a barrel outside sonoma city hall. It was found around midnight after someone reported Illegal Dumping at sonoma plaza. The victim has been identified as 64yearold ronald vavano from casadero. Police were led to a Mobile Home Park about two miles away. Detectives believe the man was killed there. They arrested 43yearold Christopher Mcnatt of sonoma of suspicion of murder. Two oakland men are dead tonight after fire ripped through their apartment building. It started on 24th street near mlk and spread to a neighboring building. Mark kelly spoke with fire victims who literally had to run for their lives. You see black smoke up in the air. Reporter dead of night, fire breaks out in an apartment on the second floor. You see orange flames. Reporter theodore said he had no clue his building caught fire. At first, he ignored firefighters ringing his doorbell. Our bell rings a lot at night and it is usually some junkie. Tonight, it was the fire department. Reporter the unit where the fire started, flames have taken two lives. Both men, 28 and 35 years old. Firefighters feared losing more and gave it everything they had to keep the old wooden roof from caving in, but the large attic only fanned the flames. It feel like forever. Felt like hours. Reporter the fire spread to an adjoining building where 20 people slept. We didnt smell any smoke or hear anything. Reporter when firefighters alerted benjamin garcia, he grabbed his dog and got outside. I went outside and i looked and saw the flames. Reporter police say 63year old Richard White of kenner, louisiana died late saturday afternoon after he was shot three times friday night inside the Louie Armstrong airport as he tried to attack Airport Security personnel. He approached the tsa check point and started waving a machete and a can of insect spray. One of the lieutenant deputies shot white as he swung a machete and chased a tsa officer. The officer is a hero. She saved my life. Reporter officers found a bag near white after he was subdued. What the bag revealed was six half pint mason jars with cloth wicks into a liquid that we now know to be gasoline. Which you would commonly refer to as a malitov cocktail. Reporter deputies also found a barbecue lighter, letter opener, and crushed smoke bombs near white. A searchover his car turned up more smoke bombs and freon and oxygen in the tonk. Investigators say they may never know why white launched his attack. His family is cooperating with police. They say he had a history of mental issues. Danielle nottingham, cbs news. Seven children from the same family are dead tonight after a fire ripped through their brooklyn home. The fire erupted just after midnight. Their mother and another child made it out a second story window. They are in critical condition. Investigators say a hot plate left on a kitchen counter started the fire. The flames raced up the stairs trapping the children in their second floor bedrooms. A ski left accident in maine sent four people to the hospital. It happened at sugar loaf mountain. 200 people were riding the lift when it suddenly stopped and reversed direction. The lift stopped at about a couple hundred feet up the trail and it started to come down back wards which is not normal. I was pretty terrified actually. There was a lot of screaming going on behind us. In all, seven people were hurt. The lift will be closed until investigators figure out how it happened. It is the longest coast to coast journey of an automated car from San Francisco to new york. Reporter this car will make the 3500mile trip using the selfdriving technology which including roughly 20 sensing systems. Around the periphery, there is vision, radar. It has gps and vehicle to vehicle and vehicle to infrastructure communications. Reporter delfi is putting it to the test to collect more data about highways. There will be an operator behind the wheel in case of emergency. It relies on radar, infrastructure r the cars to make decisions. Reporter but they wont be hands free 100 of the time. In urban environments, they will take over and drive. Only five places in the United States including washington, dc, nevada have specific regulations about autonomous driving.
