Chopper 9 sky zoom was over this construction site as the crews used a fire truck to lift the worker out on a stretcher. Crews told us they were trying to remove concrete from in front of this old building you see here when a portion of the concrete gave way. Years old plunged 12 feet down the hole to the ground. As we arent seeing much of a wintery concern here this morning for the morning drive as originally thought. As you mentioned. D. O. T. Trucks were out in full force making sure anything that did fall this morning wouldnt lead to treacherous driving conditions. We caught up with a few of the tricks late last night setting down the brine, the salt. Making sure the roads were treated enough. Weve been talking with mark taylor. A couple of accidents out here early this morning and out here live, right above 277, the brookshire, travel looks decent. Were tracking everyone going out or just below the speed limit. Roads are treacherous right now. Some drivers losing control of their cars while going just 15 to 20 miles per hour. The d. O. T. Here at Catawba County is putting sand and salt down along with some brine on some of the over passes and some of the problem areas where theyve had accidents. We talked with one driver who wrecked this morning about these conditions. This guy we saw a bunch of guys fish tailing. Its ridiculous. People need to slow down. Take it slow. If you dont have to go out today, dont go out. Its not worth it. Reporter i think the hardest thing is for folks, when they step outside, they look and they see grass, they see wet roads, the roads have a lot of black ice. The key into the afternoon is the temperature. Right now were holding in the mid 20s. Hopefully itll rise later this evening and get above the freezing mark. Very heavy rain. A couple minutes ago we werent able to see that far ahead of us because of the rain. Were just to the north of the strongest part of the storm. I mentioned just north of high sholes, very heavy rain and strong winds. Its moving very fast. The storm is under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 12 45, its moving at 60 to 70 Miles Per Hour. So it will be here and gone but we had to really slow down our speed, both hands on the wheel because of the winds that were so strong. Weve been hearing reports of downed power lines and trees. Were likely going to see some of those throughout areas of lincoln and Gaston County with these strong thunderstorms. Were getting near the lincolnton area, light rain still continuing here in storm cam. Still some very dark ominous clouds ahead of us. Theyre moving very fast here this afternoon. Staying at this quality inn off wood lawn. Police searched his room but the warrant shows they recovered two ipods. But in all, nine guns were stolen from firefighters cars in charlotte, kannapolis, and greensboro, we asked cmpd if theyve recovered the guns or if they could have been sold, a spokesperson didnt comment saying the case is still under investigation but this doesnt sit well with many people. You never know whos got the guns. It can be very dangerous. Police were able to recover one of the guns. They found a gun stolen out of greensboro in bings car.
