Youre watching coping with covid19 with chris manners. Todays special guest is julie kirschbaum. Hi. Im chris manners. Youre watching coping with covid19. Today, im speaking with the executive director of the sfmta. Thank you and welcome to the show. Thank you for having me. Can we begin by talking about the services that have been suspended and there have been changes to the services that are still running . Absolutely. Weve had to make really significant changes to our services in response to covid19. Initially going down to as few as 17 routes. These are routes that people use to get to work or the hospital, Grocery Stores, really to make the most essential trips that are needed throughout this process. Weve been fortunate over the last, say, five or six weeks, that our Staffing Levels have gotten better, and as weve increased our cleaning capacity, that weve been able to add some Community Services back. Weve added a shuttle on pacific avenue, which is helping seniors get to Grocer
Things out in public. And so i emailed commissioner taylor to add it on for action. Commissioner taylor responds, i cant do that. Its on for status. I get an email that thats whats going to happen, but theres no reason its not on for action. This should be adopted tonight. This august 5 . This should have been passed last august. This is disgraceful, embarrassing, disgusting conduct, and i Vice President taylor all right. Dont be so hard. Commissioner hamasaki now, dont interrupt me commissioner dejesus yeah, its showing. Youre being rude right now. First of all, parents are here. Youre being rude, first of all, and second of all, i dont normally do this, but there are a whole bunch of lies happening tonight, so you want to have this conversation . Let me finish. Were going to have this conversation now. First of all, were not going to do is compare every situation to the slaughter of black people. Not everything is a knee to the neck, and were not going to do that. Second of all, i wa
Little bit more than 50 . Some sections have a little bit less than 50 . And that was for december. As of today, june 2020, we have surpassed 50 . Every station in the San Francisco Police Department has more than 50 of their officers trained. It is a hard task to do. When we talk about training and how we get this training going, i know back in 2016 we had a few incidents that pushed this Program Forward and asked the department to look back and see what else we can do to improve the program. And took over the program in 2015, we had 250 officers that were trained in c. I. T. As of right now we have over 1200 officers and 40 hours. I think thats a big statement that the department has done as far as how much we care about our officers providing the training that they need. Not only do we do that every time we do the training but we want to get the best of the best. So a little history on this, we have people that volunteer, and do not get paid to come and train our officers. So honest
If you would be willing, i would love to have your involvement in collating that document and as Vice President , i think she should have the ability to weigh in on whether she wants to participate in that document and if she chooses not to, then i would we cant restaff, ask if one of the other commissioners would like to participate and make a decision from there on the best way to move forward. Im happy to do that. Ok. Well, then, is that a workable plan for generating a collated draft for us to review in the next meeting . This is regina, yes. Good. And we have a good plan, then. I confirm with my commissionecommissioners that tf the essence and no time to waste. Everybody has made great points that we need to get on ground now. Yeah, yeah. Look, i think its also important to highlight the work of the commission, which i think has been extraordinary. We have been moving as quickly as we can and i think quite effectively and maybe punching quite above our weight and so, i agree with
