Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu, elected in September, pledging to cultivate strong ties with China and eject Indian troops. He met with President Xi Jinping, announcing the "elevation of bilateral ties".
"The two sides agree to continue firmly supporting each other in safeguarding their respective core interests," a joint statement issued at the end of Muizzu's talks with Chinese leaders said.
