KUCHING: Sarawak will intensify its campaign to reach out to the public to register for the Covid-19 vaccination programme now that the second phase is underway.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah said so far, 266,197 people had registered for the second phase, or about 28% of the estimated 958,951 targeted recipients. It s still low, so we will work out a more aggressive outreach to the people. We will do our best to ensure that all who are eligible will have the opportunity to be registered and given the jabs, he said after visiting the vaccination centre at the Indoor Stadium here on Friday (April 23).
KUCHING: Sarawak reported a new daily record high of 361 Covid-19 cases on Thursday (March 4), with an outbreak among offshore workers in Miri contributing to the spike.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah said 49 out of 89 cases reported in Miri were detected at the Baram oil and gas platform after several day-trip workers did not adhere to standard operating procedures and were exposed to Covid-19 in a high-risk area.
He said the index case was detected during screening of workers. We will not take this issue lightly. Companies must also be responsible. This is the first time and it seems that it was caused by several persons who did not follow the SOP, he said at the state disaster management committee s briefing here on Thursday.
KUCHING: Two new Covid-19 clusters were detected in Sarawak on Monday (Feb 22).
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah said the Emperoh Jambu cluster was linked to a funeral at Kampung Emperoh Jambu in Padawan here from Feb 3 to 5 and had 60 confirmed cases to date.
The village will be placed under an enhanced movement control order for 14 days from Feb 23 to March 8. The index case is a 45-year-old man who tested positive on Feb 16 while undergoing screening before starting work. He is believed to have infected his family members, who likely spread it to other contacts when attending the funeral of the index case s wife, he said at the state disaster management committee s briefing here on Monday (Feb 22).
