SIBU: Residents in the urban area here now face a very high risk of contracting Covid-19, says Dr Annuar Rapaee.
The district Divisional Disaster Management Committee coordinator said this can be seen in daily data showing that areas covered by the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) are recording an increase in cases.
Of the 95 cases in the Sibu district on Saturday (April 17), 65 of them were reported in the SMC area. Another 13 were recorded in Sibu Jaya and 17 more were recorded in the Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) area, ” said Dr Annuar.
He added in a Facebook live-stream on Saturday that the total number of cases in the SMC area on Friday (April 16) was 57.

Speaking at a press conference after commissioning the new fire station at Sibu Jaya on Saturday (April 10), Zuraida Kamaruddin said the department would be scouting for local residents who are well-versed with the area to be members of the team. There is a need to form more Mocsar teams in the state. We will identify locals who are familiar with their areas and train them to be team members, she said.

SIBU: Residents in Sibu district are urged not to speculate about the action that will be taken on two residential flats in Sibu Jaya, Flat H and I, that recorded a high number of Covid-19 positive cases today.
Sarawak Local Government and Housing Assistant Minister Dr Annuar Rapaee said the Sibu division Disaster Management Committee chairman Charles Siaw had asked to hold a meeting tomorrow (Tuesday) to discuss the actions that need to be taken regarding the rise in cases.
“Tomorrow we will meet and see what can be done for the residents in both flats that recorded a high number of cases,” he said during a live-streaming session on his Facebook page today.
KUCHING: Sarawak reported a new daily record high of 361 Covid-19 cases on Thursday (March 4), with an outbreak among offshore workers in Miri contributing to the spike.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah said 49 out of 89 cases reported in Miri were detected at the Baram oil and gas platform after several day-trip workers did not adhere to standard operating procedures and were exposed to Covid-19 in a high-risk area.
He said the index case was detected during screening of workers. We will not take this issue lightly. Companies must also be responsible. This is the first time and it seems that it was caused by several persons who did not follow the SOP, he said at the state disaster management committee s briefing here on Thursday.
