Abia s Ikpeazu meets with cabinet, plans security roundtable

Daily Post Nigeria Published Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, on Monday, met with members of his cabinet in Aba on Monday to deliberate on additional measures needed to ensure protection of lives and property in the state following recent attacks on police stations by yet to be identified hoodlums. Briefing newsmen after the meeting which was attended by the Deputy Governor, Rt Hon Ude Oko Chukwu, and other members of the state executive council, the Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, stated that the state government was set to organize a security roundtable involving key stakeholders in the state to review the prevailing situation and recommend measures to further improve security in the State.

The Commissioner stated this in an interactive session with newsmen in Umuahia on Wednesday. He noted that the local security outfits established by the Governor Okezie Ikpeazu led administration to cater for the security of the people and the State in complementing the efforts of federal security agencies, were still very effective. On the issue of attacks on security institutions in the state, he made it clear that some arrests have been made and that the people should cooperate with government in finding lasting solution to the menace. According to him, “we strongly urge all on those attacking security facilities in the country to stop it immediately because the consequences of such mindless attacks will not be palatable to any citizen of this country. Attacks on police officers, in particular, constitutes direct threat to our society. Nobody will benefit from anarchy going anarchical in our state or country.”

❚ You already voted!   Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has expressed anger over an attack on Mike Okiro Police Station located along Umuahia-Uzoakoli Road, close to Ubani market, insisting that perpetrators will not go unpunished. In a statement made available to IGBERE TVon Sunday, the governor through the Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu announced that the attack which occurred around 9:45am on Sunday was allegedly carried out by unidentified arsonists who came in a hummer bus, 2 Sienna mini vans and 3 motorcycles.     He added that while two vehicles, two motorcycles, stationeries, and office equipment inside the police station were set on fire, there were no human casualties or loss of weapons.
