The Stop & Shop supermarket on Cherry Valley Road in West Hempstead remained a crime scene Wednesday, one day after an employee opened fire, killing one person and wounding two others.
Gabriel Dewitt Wilson, 31, who authorities say has a history of mental illness and a violent past, was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon and appeared in court Wednesday morning.
Wilson was arraigned on one count of 2nd degree murder and four counts of attempted murder.
It was Tuesday at about 11:20 a.m. when prosecutors say Wilson walked into supermarket filled with customers.

VALLEY STREAM, NY The West Hempstead Stop & Shop store manager killed in a shooting Tuesday was a father of seven, according to reports. He was an amazing, an amazing dad, Fiona Morgan, a cousin of 49-year-old Ray Wishropp, told ABC 7. He was a strong pillar of our family.
Wishropp and two other people at the store on Cherry Valley Road were shot by employee Gabriel Dewitt Wilson around 11:19 a.m. Tuesday., police said.

31-year-old Gabriel Dewitt Wilson, who authorities say has a history of mental illness, was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon and appeared in court Wednesday morning.
Wilson was arraigned on one count of 2nd degree murder and four counts of attempted murder.
He was remanded and will appear again on Friday. He faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted.

Gabriel Dewitt Wilson is charged with killing a manager, and injuring two other workers at a Stop & Shop in West Hempstead.
Authorities describe Wilson, 31, as a troubled employee. They said he showed up to work on Tuesday to ask for a transfer to another location. He filled out a form and then left without incident, only to return 40 minutes later, CBS2’s Natalie Duddridge reported.
Wearing a white jumpsuit, Wilson was walked into Nassau County police headquarters on Wednesday morning, mumbling under his breath. He is charged with second-degree murder, and four counts of attempted murder, after investigators say he opened fire at the supermarket on Cherry Valley Road just after 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
