Brownhill Learning Community brings Christmas cheer to local care homes Date published: 28 December 2020 Brownhill Learning Community has spread Christmas cheer Brownhill Learning Community has been running an ongoing project with local care homes to try and ease loneliness and bring cheer. During the second lockdown, students from Brownhill created handmade personalised centre pieces for two local care homes to use on Christmas dinner tables. Students visited the care homes to deliver the centre pieces and sing Christmas carols and the residents came to the windows to wave and blow kisses to the students and wish them a merry Christmas. Chelsea Williamson, Youth Worker at Brownhill Learning Community, said: “This was heart-warming for the students, residents and staff alike. They loved the gifts and seeing the students hand-delivering them.”

The school’s head of PE, John Banner, a former soldier, found that the students showed great interest when learning about Remembrance Day. Mr Banner found their interest the perfect opportunity to raise money for a worthwhile cause. Training began at the end of October and as the weeks progressed, the staff found that the students were becoming even more determined to better their performance. The target to raise £500 gave them a focus and kept them fit and active during the second national lockdown.
