A Detroit man was sentenced Monday, May 6, 2024, to 80 years in prison for the October 2021 murder of two Charleston women. Marquis Jermayne Goodman, 24, pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder in February for shooting Bria Nicole White, 26, and Kytiana Belcher, 22. The two were found on Hunt Avenue and Grant Street, respectively.
Charleston developer John H. Wellford III, 73, pleaded guilty in federal court Wednesday, May 1, 2024, to falsifying bankruptcy records.
According to U.S. Attorney Will Thompson, Wellford intentionally failed to disclose almost a million dollars that he transferred away from Corotoman Inc.

In a document prepared for the Municipal Auditorium Special Committee s meeting on May 30, Leahy estimated he could bring in about $1.2 million from the venue by increasing the number of ticketed events to 84.
