today, in the closed door hearing, they will go over the lies about the timing of the mosccow deal. they re going to look at the timing that was had. did michael cohen meet with russians in prague for anywhere else. they want to make sure he is under oath on that. and the buzzfeed story, that the president asked him to lie. they want him on the record on that. it s not clear why this hearing has to be private. as journalists, we should question that. robert mueller is not asking this be in private. his investigation is essentially wrapped up. it s good for the public to get these answers on the record. chairman burr has suggested his committee is going to take steps to ensure cohen isn t lying again. and he told this to the a.p.
made a turn turned the corner in his life and is here to tell the truth. and someone who was so close and instrumental to president trump, that he knows all of the secrets and firsthand accounts. that s another thing that republicans will try to do, is downplay cohen s role in trump s orbit and make him to be a coffee boy figure, if they can. richard burr has said nothing will be off-limits today. what does that mean? before i answer that, i want to say, that white house statement is some overreach. it s one thing to point out that michael cohen has lied. that s indisputable. but to say that it s laughable for anyone to take him seriously, you re impugning richard burr. you re also impugning the prosecutors in manhattan and in robert mueller s office, who has believed michael cohen and has used it in court documents to make allegations about what happened.
concerns from nunes, burr, ryan or mcconnell, the republicans there? no concerns. did they say you re doing what? you re investigating the president? no pushback whatsoever. i walked through a fairly detailed brief i won t share the details here, of course. there was resignation at the table. there were a few nodding heads. but you were specific, we are investigating the president of the united states because we are concerned that there may be something amiss regarding his relationship with russia? i was perfectly clear of that. on that point? yeah. perfectly clear with that point. any responses from any of them, the four republicans, that you can tell us here? there was not a discussion after my presentation. did you get a call after
anyone who participated in the intelligence briefing that occurred. was that a shock to you andrew mccabe notified mitch mcconnell, devin nunes, chairman burr, paul ryan, how quickly we forget, paul ryan, and let them know the president of the united states was under investigation for possibly nefarious ties to russia and not one of them raised an objection? let me put it in context. i haven t been a member of the gang of eight but in some briefings in my capacity of the appropriations committee. it is rare if ever you have that kind of confrontation you say, that s none of your business, overstepping, you re into something you re not legally entitled to do. rare. you try to absorb the information and think, this is a thin slice of reality, i want to absorb it and put it in context
adam schiff, but right now the heart of this dispute, if you want to call it that is the fact that burr and warner don t necessarily disagree on the facts. they re kind of disagreeing on what they mean at this point and right now warner is saying it s too premature. look, there s no factual evidence and that s what the problem is right now with the leadership. even though there s been a good working side, there s been frustration on the dechl democratic side and warner s side that there s only so much the committee can do constrained as they are by the mueller investigation on one side and by the resources of the committee and by this sort of idea that you re doing it in a bipartisan way which dumbs it down in a sense. look, what s happening on the house side now. it s becoming a hard charging, aggressive investigation and that s not what happened on the senate side so there is this frustration on warner s side and how can you make these
