You have to be careful as you head out this morning with the storms moving through right now. A frontal boundary has inched closer, we have storms that have been coming down to the south from the north down to the south. So were watching for the storms. Well not see a lot oft today, and seeing it right now as you head out early, the big stories, the heat and the humidity, 73 degrees in philadelphia. Already feeling sticky. The dewpoints up into the 70s in some spots. 73 in dover. 67 in philadelphia, anytime you hit about 70, you start to feel oppressive. Thats the way its going to be today. The high today 96 degrees, but its going to feel like 100. Hot and humid, watching for a stray thunderstorm around, this is particularly tough, matt for the kids in school, some of the schools not air conditioned. Reporter that is not a fun time.
For the most part, we have a lot of lightning, some heavy rain and that heavy rain is going to be in the forecast for the next few days. We have a first alert out because of it. Chester county, berks county, all of delaware. So we expect this rainy pattern to continue, some rain could be heavy at times, i dont think everyone will be seeing all this heavy rain, but the areas we first mentioned in the first alert could be seen with some localized flash flooding, with any heavy thunderstorms that we happen to see roll through. With a closer look at the timing, we go over to glenn hurricane schwartz. Thats a pretty impressive area of thunderstorms moving into your area, and just going to get better and better as we go through the evening hours, look at the hour by hour forecast. About 7 30, were seeing some of that already coming into newcastle county, delaware, parts of new chester county, where the first alert is. Even with the rain its not much cooler for allentown and reading at 56 degrees. Forecast hour by hour, 59 degrees with light rain at 8 00. More than 36,000 workers are promising to strike after months of working without a contract. Two unions, Communications Workers of america and the International Brotherhood of electrical workers represent verizon land line and cable workers from mass pass to virginia. The unions say that verizon wants to freeze pensions, make layoffs easier and rely more on contract workers. Verizon says with higher medical costs, there are Health Care Issues that need to be addressed. Verizon says it also has thousands of nonunion employees trained and ready to fill in.
