I first want to show you, outside the Wells Fargo Center where the flyers play, the flyers flag is at halfstaff in honor of their teams founder, ed snider. He passed away yesterday morning after a twoyear fight with bladder cancer. He was 83 years ole. He was born in washington, d. C. But moved here to philadelphia in 1964. By the age of 33 he mortgaged his home to form the flyers, the team, and bring them here to philadelphia. His vision for sports in the city did not stop there. In the early 1990s he worked with the city and Business Community to build what is known today as the Wells Fargo Center. Ed snider was also a philanthropist, creating the flyers charities. That groups signature event is the flyers wives carnival. Its raised 28 million since 1977. He also created the ed snider youth hockey foundation, an organization that helps kids who ordinarily would not have the opportunity to play hockey. New this morning, transgender students in a north Jersey School district can now use rest rooms and locker rooms based on their gender identity. Parents are afraid to come here because of people like you. Youre from a statewide group that sponsors bigotry and hate. This Heated Exchange was part of the debate at a School District meeting in hills dale, Bergen County last night. The school board voted to pass the transgender policy for two high schools in the district. It warrants the rights that every other student has within our School District. My daughter is kind of upset. She doesnt want to have to think about having boys in her locker room. I think it should be the expectation and not the exception to the rule. The new policy follows several other new Jersey School districts that passed similar measures. Meantime, transgender rights were the focus of a rally in raleigh, North Carolina yesterday. It drew hundreds of people from both sides of the socalled bathroom bill law. New law requires transgender people to use public rest rooms based on birth gender, not current identity. Supporters used religious leaders. Opponents said they plan to hold civil disobedience protests if the law is not repealed. Ohio school near fresno, california will allow some of its staff numbmembers to carry on campus. It will let up to five staffers at the school carry concealed weapons. Two Philadelphia Police officers will not face charges after jurors acquitted them of wrongly beating a man. Officers Sean Mcknight and Kevin Robinson were accused of beating najee rivera. His girlfriend found Surveillance Video that appears to show the officers beating rivera. Lawyers for the officers claimed they used Necessary Force to get rivera under control. He died late last year after being shot during a street fight in ckensington. Republican house leaders pulled the bill from a final vote amid a veto threat from democratic governor tom wolf. The measure would ban elective abortions after 20 weeks instead of the current ban at 24 weeks. It would outlaw procedures as pell. Its incredible the legislature would push this forward so quickly without hearings or opportunity for a reasoned discussion. That to me demonstrates how politically motivated this is. Theres no word on when the voting session will be rescheduled. A final vote could be close, though, on pennsylvanias medical marijuana legislation. A Senate Committee made changes to the bill yesterday and backers hope to see it pass in both houses this week. The bill would let patients who suffer from a list of ailments use marijuana for therapeutic purposes. A push this morning to protect local residents from contaminated drinking water. Congressman Brendon Boyle and Patrick Meehan are calling on the Environmental Protection agency to propose tougher regulations on drinker water. They made their appeal outside Horsham Air Guard station. They say high levels of chlorinated compounds have been found in water in and around the base.
