What should have been a 9 00 to 5 00 workday became a day in the dark in San Francisco with 88,000 customers knocked out because a Circuit Breaker failed in this substation. When the Circuit Breaker, it created a fire around the breaker. The insulation around the breaker burned. Firefighters were there in minutes. But it took extra effort to put the flames out. We did it successfully with a dry chemical agent. We noticed flareups and put co 2 on the fire. Pg and e blames the age of the substation and says an upgrade is planned. The facility upgrades is a 100 million project that will be completed in the Second Quarter of 2018. A quarter of the Traffic Signals were out as was the montgomery street b. A. R. T. Eletrical equiptment was making it hard to put out so they brought in a Carbon Dioxide truck. It suffocates the fire and removes the oxygen and cools it downafter several hours the fire was finally put out and pge could tell us the cause of both that. And the massive power outage that effected such a large swath of the city.
