When the Circuit Breaker, it created a fire around the breaker. The insulation around the breaker burned. Firefighters were there in minutes. But it took extra effort to put the flames out. We did it successfully with a dry chemical agent. We noticed flareups and put co 2 on the fire. Pg and e blames the age of the substation and says an upgrade is planned. The facility upgrades is a 100 million project that will be completed in the Second Quarter of 2018. A quarter of the Traffic Signals were out as was the montgomery street b. A. R. T. And muni station. With the power back on, there may be residual backups. Police are working on that. Were trying to facilitate traffic as much as we can. Pg and e is promising a thorough investigation. The mayor says there was a silver lining. We checked our trauma centers, the hospitals and clinics, and its good news that there have been no major injuries reported in. Todays power outage brought work to a standstill in the heart of the city and caused major traffic jams, transit issues and Business Owners to lose money. Heres reporter kate larson with that part of the story. Firefighters rushing from one call to another in downtown San Francisco during a power outage to rescue people from manys worst nightmare. It was scary to me. Get on the elevator and the lights and all went blank. Renee, a Building Security guard on dairy street says an employee got stuck inside this elevator for 30 minutes right after the power went out at account this morning. I said are you all right . Yeah, okay. When they finally came and they cracked it open enough where i can give him a bottle of water. We could restored electric. Pg and e crews doing their best to move through sluggish traffic caused by dark signal lights. While construction crews on Union Squares subway station had to adjust work plans. We cant occupy anything underground. Everybody has been evacuated and the site cleared underground. They moved up top and continuing work. Theres one upside to the mess. Tourists found it easier to take selfies on the cable cars when they werent moving. The tracks are fine but they werent able to operate. As widespread as todays outage was, it was not as bad as onehat happened three days before christmas in 2003. The outage was also caused by a fire at a pg and e substation and knocked out electricity for the nthwestern quadrant of the city. Retailers lost millions of dollars because they had to shut down during the busy Holiday Shopping season. Police ended the search for a man with a gun in berkeley. Someone saw the gunman around 4 30 this afternoon at austin way. Police ordered a shelter in place in a fourblock area. Officers went house to house with the help of a canine unit. At 7 00, they dee layered the area secure. In san jose today, police shot a man holding a knife. It happened this afternoon at lewis and center roads. Witnesses called police saying the man was threatening people with a knife and using it to cut himself. The first officer arrived and con fronted the man. He ignored commands and charged the officer with the knife. The officer opened fire, hitting him at least once. Hes being treated for serious injuries. Theres a new twist in the saga over conservative speaker ann coulter. Attorneys are drafting a lawsuit against uc berkeley after the University Said it doesnt have a secured venue for coulter next week. Heres the latest. The Attorney Says the lawsuit her firm is filing against uc berkeley is not about money or ann coulter. This is about berkeleys persistent refusal to honor the kongs tugs. This is the third instance of canceling conservative speakers. Unconstitutional requirements and bait and switch that berkeley did with the milo speech. Tomorrow, cal trans will close the overpass to and to northbound 101 in burlingame so they can build new detours. The overpass will make it easier for hotel guests near the airport to get to downtown burlingame. Abc 7 news was on minor road in orinda to replace a bridge. The small the 7yearold bridge caved 97yearold bridge the city council had to extend a state of emergency to get the needed permits and to ensure that fish could still pass through. That fix will cost close to 3 million and should be done at the end of june. Students and researchers at uc berkeley getting ready to hit the streets tomorrow for earth day. The wreckage of flight 370 is located north of the now abandoned search zone. It was en route from kuala lumpur to beijing. For years, crews searched of the indian ocean looking for signs of a plane. Part of a wing of the missing jet washed up near madagascar in july of 2015. Scientists used real airline parts to recreate how that wing would have drifted and can now say the plane would have gone down in part of the ocean farther north than where they looked. A 4yearold girl is recovering at a missouri hospital after she unlatched the back door of a bus and tumbled on to the pavement.
