there s a keener interest or keener eye being placed on this investigation and location? yeah, this investigation is going to have ebbs and flows like every investigation does. and right now, yeah, i see that there are some movement forward. again, because i think that this group, this investigative team, the malaysians have started to accept and understand the importance of having the other experts involved. i think it s very important to get that information. one thing i wanted to mention about the parts you were talking about is there are some things even without being expert that would be very important on this aircraft. one is in the cargo compartment of this aircraft it s distinctively green when most aircraft are still painted white over. so that and these parts as john goglia mentioned before are all identified with a 200 part number or 300 part number. there s some identification that can be done in the field before they bring it back to australia. gentlemen, thank you so
breached the compartment and there are cables in the cheek area, which is between the cargo compartment instead of and the fusel fusel fuselleage. there could have been as i heard the possibility of a fire in the e and a compartment below the cockpit and that could have messed up a lot of that. could it continue to fly for a period of time? well, there s a theory that says, yes, if the crew got the plane stabilized lower altitude for what they hoped was a diversionary airport and then the crews were overcome and the plane would continue to fly. we talked about what the transportation minister said, hope against hope. we ll play the sound in just a
debris amei mean, some of it would sink after a certain amount of time. what is floating will stay floating for longer than you might expect. the bottom of the cargo compartment, which is a green zinc chromate color. one part of debris is said to be green? yes, which is fairly unique to that aircraft. typically they re painted white and have a different color inside. this aircraft doesn t, it s green. it s a honeycomb structure, it has a sealed epoxyed together, which has sealed air compartments inside it. if it s floating, it s likely to continue to float but certainly not through the winter. and we re anticipating this press conference getting started any time soon.
fire suppression, a lot of safety mechanisms that go into those 191 issues that did mitigate the issue. so to think that tying this into this aircraft now the ones that have the accidents that have been caused by battery fires or any kind of cargo fire have resulted in significant damage to the aircraft, structural damage to the aircraft and subsequent crash. so and i don t suspect that here. obviously, because we have pings from that aircraft from hours and hours later. had there been a fire in the cargo hold, we also would have gotten notification through the acars system that would have triggered a new indication. the pilot and co pilot from the cargo compartment would have had indications of it and been able to notify someone at that point. so every day we get a new nugget of information that either, you know, helps us to figure something out or creates more questions, which is typically what happens. colonel kay, the cell phone call made eight minutes before takeoff by the p
ion batteries in the cargo compartment. ross, thank you very much. we have a number of new bits of information coming in regarding the spotting of what appears to australian authorities to be a debris field, some 1,500 miles to the south and west of perth, australia, off the western coast of australia. is it do they believe it s possible this is wreckage of this jet? they do. they have satellite images. but they now have one ship on scene one aircraft on scene. three more aircraft on the way. a ship on the way as well. they re hoping to begin a search.catherine herridge is in washington and do we have her on the line with us now? instead i want to go to david piper. remember, that it was the thai radar systems that were able to spot a change in direction for this jet. and now our david piper is live
