Us along with our panel as we watch this, the idea this search might have to be stopped for a given length of time, its not something we certainly have never heard of. We heard that before with air France Flight 447, that the flight had already been found. But were way early on that. Were not i dont think for a moment were going to be talking about stopping at any time soon. Remembering the Southern Hemisphere winter, its coming into fall now, then winter will be coming along shortly. I think were some way off. Id be very surprised if hes going to announce hes bringing friends home tomorrow. Absolutely once winter arrives in the Southern Hemisphere and depths of winter, you wont find them going out. It would be too dangerous with the planes and it would be fruitless. They will do what they did with 447, regroup and look at the evidence and set up a new plan for where theyre going to start. are some questions about that crew. and led by that captain. and you know, a ship has many compartments with hatches that are water tight and air tight. and so decisive quick action, correct action, when things went wrong is what would have saved many lives, right, leading to a proper evacuation, but also making sure the air compartments are air tight and water tight. and to the extent that occurred there could well be air pockets and people have been known to survive for quite sometime in very deep water in these air pockets. yeah, the most recent example, striking example, last winter, there was a chef on board a nigerian ferry that lived for three days. that is right, he lived for three days. so essentially there are three main things for people that survive the actual capsizing of the ship. three dangers, one is the temperature. if you re in the cold water you re not going to last for very long.
debris amei mean, some of it would sink after a certain amount of time. what is floating will stay floating for longer than you might expect. the bottom of the cargo compartment, which is a green zinc chromate color. one part of debris is said to be green? yes, which is fairly unique to that aircraft. typically they re painted white and have a different color inside. this aircraft doesn t, it s green. it s a honeycomb structure, it has a sealed epoxyed together, which has sealed air compartments inside it. if it s floating, it s likely to continue to float but certainly not through the winter. and we re anticipating this press conference getting started any time soon.
out of fuel, there s no fuel left on that 777, mark, would it be more conducive to floating wreckage from that aircraft, as opposed to sinking? well, parts of the aircraft would have floated more easily. certainly the wings, because they have a lot of air compartments in there. but, you know, when that airplane would have landed or hit the water, a good deal of it would have sunk and come apart. and really, what you re going to be looking at is what kind of a debris field there is. which will help you determine how that airplane came apart, but parts of it would still be floating. because usually in a situation like this, you re looking for not only debris field, but looking for an oil slick, too. that would be a sure sign that something was going on. if the plane was empty from fuel, wouldn t be an oil slick. very little. hydraulic fuels, liquids, that s it. and that would disappear fairly soon. yes, it would. is cooperation getting any better between there s rivalries,
